(Excited Salutations!) Welcome back to the Snatch Edges podcast. I'm your host Ebuni and here we talk about healthy hair, healthy scalps how to just live our best lives through our hair. All that good stuff.

How are you guys doing this week? I hope you all had a productive week, you are enjoying yourselves you know living good uhhh….. London weather is... is warming up a bit. It still looks a bit gray outside but it definitely is like you know not hat scarf and gloves as it has been for the past couple of weeks, which is good for us. You know not so much friction on our hairs from wearing erm... scarves all the time, except I've been wearing a headscarf for like the last four weeks straight.

Which brings me to this week's episode. I did want to talk about.... diffuse hair loss, shedding and breakage, you know to go on from... last week, where I gave a brief introduction to the different types of hair loss, and as I was preparing the show notes, I felt... it's imperative that I don't... I don't want to come across as like a Hair Guru like I know it all when you know, oh what I say goes whatever because I am in this with you guys like real deep.

So I have been erm ...basically to cut like a long story short, been taken like some medications and it's basically just been messing with my hair, like my skin is all dry. My hair is so so so dry, but my scalp is greasy and it's just quite horrid at the moment.

So yeah I just wanted to talk to you about like how I am just not feeling my hair, I can't be bothered with it. It's just very, very annoying and it... because it's so dry it's tangling a lot, tangling a lot and I'm getting lots of Single strand knots, also known as Fairy knots for those in the Natural Hair community. You know, the devil is a liar and I've had to cut out so many and erm yeah, it's just meant that as it's been cold, I haven't really wanted to style my hair. Because every style that I feel like I've done just doesn't look how it would usually do or I'm just very aware that my hair is shedding a lot more than usual. So where I would usually have my hair like out in a Afro or in like a Big Puff. I play with my hair a lot. So I'm just like oh, if there's like hairs falling out and I don't wanna be leaving like a trail of of hairs behind me. So I've had to just wrap it up and keep it wrapped. And I'm at the end of my tether. I actually feel to like shave it off today. I'm just so frustrated.... And I know that this is not just a problem I would go through so I thought if I wanted to, you know give you guys a little bit of insight that even hairstylists and whatever, we do have hair problems and we go through things the same way you will.

So I decided that before I take any drastic action and cut all my hair off again as I usually do when it gets in this kind of phase, I would actually try and show it some extra TLC and see if that would have an impact on erm... on the condition it's in so if that would improve the dryness. Something to kind of like settle my scalp down and basically give it a really good trim as well.

So the steps I'm going to take are I have bought some Aloe Vera... There's so much stuff on the Internet, I'm not really going to go into all the ins and outs of why Aloe Vera is good for your scalp and for your hair. But you know I'm going to definitely use that,  because when I tell you I've got like instant Dreadlocks at the moment. So... I definitely have to do a Pre Poo treatment. So that I can detangle my hair, before I let any kind of shampoo or water touch it. Because I know that, that will be just the end of my days if I try and even put a comb through it at the moment because it definitely is one big old ball of mess ermm…..

What else am I going to do? I am going to do a Deep condition. So I've got some Bentonite Clay and I'm probably going to mix in do Hot oil treatment with that as well. So I've got some Almond oil, some some Coconut oil and some Shea butter. I will mix that up, apply that to my hair, leave that for at least 20 minutes or so. And put a cap over it and definitely let my hair steam. If you have a steamer, that's perfect. If you don't have a steamer, you can wrap a hot towel around your head or you can put like you know the old school way; little plastic bag, wrap a towel around that. Or even if you have a blow dryer with a hood attachment, if you put a shower cap on or again something plastic and cover your hair and put the hood attachment on.

It doesn't need to be hot, saying just something warm for like 10, 15 minutes to and that will really help to increase the moisture levels in your hair. What else am I gonna do? My hair needs a trim, as I said I've had loads of erm Single strand knots. Where basically, because my hair is just been so dry and just out to steal whatever it wants, erm It's been getting really really tangled. I've been lazy. I haven't been wearing a satin bonnet underneath my headscarf so I know that the friction of wearing the headscarf is also adding to the damage. So really, most of it is actually self inflicted, like I had a little bit of a problem. But then I just got frustrated and I was just like do you know what, can't be bothered to deal with this right now. So I've let it progressively get worse. And that's why having a really good routine is so important.

So I just wanted to be honest with you guys and say look...the best of us we slack as well and erm you know, we have to face the consequences. So I'm probably going to have to…I'm probably gonna give my hair a good trim. It's been about maybe two or three months since I last gave it a cut. And so I'm guessing I might need to take off about an inch or so. And well, I don't really, I'm not really too worried about the length or anything, because that's not a big deal. Like, even though I've been experiencing a lot of breakage, my hair is grown really, really quickly. So I know that you know, before in no time, I'll see that. See that coming back in and I'm definitely going to make an effort to do Protective styling. So I'm probably not going to give up the headscarf for a little bit until the weather really improves. But I will make an effort to either have my hair in Twists or something underneath. It's just that erm where I've had it out.... in an Afro, I really like the volume that it gives to my headscarf, it looks quite nice rather than when my hair is Flat Twisted or just in Mini Twists its kind of quite flat. But you know, there's a simple hack for that I just use another smaller headscarf underneath to give myself that bun. And Bob's your uncle.

So yeah, I'm gonna try to like you know, really give my…...my hair a lot of a lot of loving a lot of care over the next four weeks or so. And I will take lots of pictures. So I'm going to do you know, an Intensive wash day today. And I will document it, so you can see my hair in its abysmal state right now. And you'll see how like, you know, the treatments I'm going to do today will have an impact on that. And I'll keep updating it, so you guys can see that look, this is what happens when you have a good routine and how you can take your hair back from you know, the brinks of death and make it look somewhat presentable.

So yeah, that was just me, you know, being open and honest with you guys. I just felt like if I come on here and give advice I'm not really being true to myself. So I wanted to let you guys know that yeah. May... I be playing games, just as much as the next person when it comes to hair sometimes. You know, it's not every day we can really be doing you know, hot oil treatments and prepoos and making sure our heads wrapped and you know headscarf is on before bed. Sometimes it's just like, I'm going to wear a headscarf until until summertime. Or until Christmas, whichever one comes first because I just cannot be bothered with it right now.

So yeah, that is it for this episode. My Instagram is ebuniajiduahhair (EA spells it out). You can follow me there for all pictures, DM me questions. See all the random stuff, I'm talking about in relates to hair. I've actually also up on the blog, if you don't subscribe. If you're not subscribed to my website, what are you doing, but we like what's going on with you guys, I don't even understand why you wouldn't be subscribed. I've recently just put a blog post up about my reading list. So I am gonna do a feature in the next few weeks as well of books I've been reading as they relate to Hair. And I've put links up to loads and loads and loads of Natural hair focus books, I've got children's books on there. I'm going to be updating it very, very regularly. So if you've written a book or if you know a really good book, or someone told your aunty's mom's sister about a good book for Hair, send me an email at info@ebuniajiduah.com  (EA spells it ) and I'll add it to the list. But yeah, definitely go have a read through. There's lots of really good ones on there. Some I've read some I haven't, but I will be trying to do reviews of them. Some of them, have got good Amazon reviews as well. So yeah, let's, let's get educated and unlearn all the silly things that we thought were good for our hair that aren't really

Alright guys. Take care and I'll see you next week. Bye bye.
